A woman with a seemingly perfect life - a great marriage, overachieving kids, beautiful home, stunning looks and still holding down a career. However she's over-worked, over committed and exhausted to the point that she's about to snap. Fed up, she joins forces with two other over-stressed moms and all go on a quest to liberate themselves from conventional responsibilities, going on a wild un-mom like binge of freedom, fun and self-indulgence - putting them on a collision course with PTA Queen Bee Gwendolyn and her clique of devoted perfect moms.
The target market for this one is presumably overtired, older Mums who feel pressured to do everything for their families and also shine at work. The concept of rebellion and the subversion of the traditional ‘good wife and mother’ role seems promising, but really goes nowhere in this film. The rebellion of these ‘moms’ consists of plotting to take over of the PTA with their campaign consisting of drinking too much and swearing a bit. It’s all very tame and seems a wasted opportunity of both plot and the not inconsiderable talents of the cast. On a positive note there were some laugh out loud moments, the soundtrack was cool and Kathryn Hahn stole the show. The best part of the movie for me were as the credits rolled and the actors were shown having conversations with their own mothers, that was funny.
